"This season Elena was slowly realizing her feelings for Damon. Season finale is usually the culmination point of the season. What can be the possible culmination between Damon and Elena? Alright, I’ll tell you: Elena chooses Damon. This season Damon and Elena had a beautiful build-up (as always) and they grew a lot closer. They even had 2 full episodes focused on their relationship. “The New Deal” and “Heart Of Darkness”. Why would the writers give Damon and Elena not even one but two episodes out of 22? I’ll tell you why: Elena chooses Damon. And I’m not even mentioning the fact that Stefan and Elena didn’t have an entire episode dedicated to them and the only episode that was promised to be theirs turned out to be Alaric’s. Just saying. P.S.: Need I remind you how powerful the kiss in “Heart Of Darkness” was?
This season put Elena right between the Salvatores. The triangle is finally equal. Elena was with Stefan during S1 and S2. Who is Elena going to choose? Upon taking odds on how love triangles work it’s certainly not going to be Stefan.
This season’s finale has a sort of a symbol. It’s a rose. The red consumes the white over. The red is Damon. Read full analysis here. Do you have any idea as to why the red consumes the white over? Oh, I know. Elena chooses Damon.
The promotional footage and all the spoilers for the finale have no hint for Damon and Elena. We have 2 little Stelena moments in the promo clip (“I promise you…” and talking to Elijah), 1 moment in the webclip and even a still with an ‘almost kiss’. It is so TVD-style to reveal every sensational thing, right? They are making us think it’s going to be Stefan to save the surprise. Do you happen to know what is this surprise? Well, Stefan and Elena don’t look like a surprise, do they?
Damon and Elena are supposed to share an introspective scene which will make us cry. Why haven’t we seen it in promotional materials? Why don’t spoilers say anything more about it? Obviously, because it’s a scoop they can’t give away.
Where is Damon? Right, he’s getting his ass kicked away from Mystic Falls. Why is he not in town? I’ll tell you why. Because we have to think Elena chooses Stefan.
Elena says “I have to let one of them go”. Matt says “Which one?” Stefan walks in. Read full analysis here. In fact, Elena has to decide which brother she needs more. In “The New Deal” she said “I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t here” (very well noted by Naty). Read full analysis here.
Julie Plec said Elena’s choice is very poignant. Lala says that Elena choosing Stefan is not really poignant because “we have seen her think that she found true love with Stefan, be with Stefan, live out that form of love with Stefan and even CHOOSE Stefan, and reject Damon”. Read full analysis here.
As Anya showed me, Delena things tend to come to full circle. “I want you to remember the things you felt while he was gone” and “I will never leave you again” seem more up-to-the-minute than ever in the situation where Damon left town and she’s with Stefan.
Nina Dobrev said: “People are going to be completely blindsided and half way through the episode, everything you think is happening, switches.” Considering the fact that Stefan is with Elena pretty much all the time (in the promo materials), something changes in the middle of the episode. Now, how can it possibly change? I don’t know. Maybe, Elena will be without Stefan in the second half of the episode? Seems only logical to me. Read my theory on how this thing goes down here.
Anya pointed out that every season finale deals with the feelings Damon and Elena have for each other. It has become a tradition already. Need I comment? Read full analysis here.
Why did the writers add Rose’s speech in “Heart Of Darkness”? Seriously, they put those words in the episode for a reason.
That’s all I could come up with so far. If you have any other reasons, feel free to send them to me, I will add them to the list.
P.S.: I must warn you that there’s a slight possibility that Elena only chooses Damon. They don’t necessarily end up together in this episode. Elena does make the choice but it doesn’t mean that she tells Damon."
