"Stefan has his bloodlust and Damon has his issues with his humanity. Why is Elena’s journey not considered to be as significant as theirs?
I love the role that Damon is unknowingly playing in Elena’s exploration of her own sexuality. You don’t become a woman just because you have sex or just because you turn 18. It’s a long evolving process and anyone who tries to tell me that Elena should just pick one brother or the other and be done with it does not have a slightest clue about this. I find that ironic given that the majority of this fandom is composed of females. But anyway, back to Elena. She’s on her own personal journey of figuring out who she is, what she wants out of life, and therefore who she wants to be with. She got into a very serious relationship at the age of 17. When it fell apart, she began questioning everything, but there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t know why people expect a girl this young to make all the “right” choices when it comes to relationships. Damon and Stefan are practically 200 years old and even they don’t get things right. Given that they both know about her confusion and both haven’t given up on her shows that they really love her and are able to recognize that she hasn’t lived the way the have - she hasn’t really experienced life yet and so it’s normal for her to not know what she wants. If you want to call her a bitch for not choosing Damon or a slut for wanting to be with someone other than Stefan, do us all a favor and don’t call yourself a Stelena or a Delena fan. You are just a Stefan/Damon stan, you don’t see Elena as an equal part of your ship and you want her to be some trophy to be won by your fave guy. Now, about Damon’s role in all of this…In 3x19 we saw a new side of Elena; one that I like to call horny!Elena. I don’t understand why girls are supposed to hide their sexuality or be ashamed of it. Elena is horny and that’s not a bad or a dirty or a slutty thing; it’s natural.
She was in bed staring at Damon and his half-naked body. Even when she got caught she couldn’t help but look anyway. After they have an honest conversation and he tries to show affection by holding her hand (a very innocent gesture), she becomes nervous and has trouble catching her breath in which time she decided to get up and leave because it was all just too much. She wants Damon but she doesn’t know how to deal with her feelings. He is not the guy she’s supposed to fall for and the fact that she can’t let him go scares the crap out of her. But it’s very hard to run away from your feelings, and so she decides to give in to what she and her body craved. She did not think about the emotional consequences…she just went with what her body was telling her to do. And that kiss? Far from anything we’ve ever seen from Elena. She was the one who ran up to him and kissed him, she took ownership of that kiss and therefore of her own sexual desires. She also did not kiss him gently or with hesitation. At that moment we saw a part of her growing as a woman and learning how to deal with her own libido.
So I guess what I’m trying to say is that she’s a single young woman and she should not have to suppress her sexuality because it’s inconvenient for 2 old dicks. Damon and Stefan choose to be in her life, nobody is forcing them. Stop trying to place blame on Elena. Damon and Stefan had serious issues as individuals and as brothers long before Elena came into the picture. And we have to keep in mind that Elena’s journey is not about them; it’s about Elena and her own self-discovery. Just because they are in the middle of it, it doesn’t mean they should determine the direction in which it goes."
